It was a attractive day and we were stoked to see a big crowd rock up to confront and greet. As the swell dropped the standard of surfing went ballistic with the field of 196 now narrowed down to only 48 competitors, it was time to kick it into gear as the Worlds best junior surfers got down to business. Once again it was Brazil surfing sensation that break away from the pack, digging deep into his back of trick and pulled out some obey blowing aerial moves that had the beach absolutely mesmerized. Be Sousa’s first wave saw him connect up three critical aerial off the tops, each looking unachievable to make, pulling an 8.83 from the judges. The competition from Australia is very strong, it’s appropriate to shove my own surfing. Heat leads were always changing throughout the event with, edge of your seat surfing and nail biting decisions future down to the wire, some results requiring the computer to delve back into multiple count back assessments to divide ties. I was stoked on that small squeaker, if you’d call it that. Manly’s Sam Page also advancing in that heat with some impressive surfing of his own. After a five year absence from Burleigh point due to a deficit of quality waves over the years, The Surf turned it on for the opening day of the Brothers Nelsen Pro Junior 2005 presented by Globe, bringing the event back to the favored Burleigh bottom which served up consistent 1.5 m workable walls giving the field of Junior Splendid Shredders a chance to divulge what they’ve got. Behind a strong international charge at the southern junior events former this month, it was the Ozzie contingent that set an outstanding pace laying down the resist in the hasty heats at the Brothers Nelsen Pro Junior. The day’s surfing saw some testing moments with South African surfer Clinton gravest busting his boarding half mid heat. Having to then quickly scramble in across the notorious slippery Burleigh rocks to grab a back up board, still managing to earn ample points in the remaining minutes of the heat to place second and advance into round 3. This forced Antonieff to slack through the heat entirely relying on the weight of his digest scoring ride of an 8.17, managing to fair progress through to the after round with a second. With waves are expected to gradually ease over the following scanty days. Based at Burleigh but with the option of chasing the superior waves on the day selfless the aped junior field a chance to unleash their furious, hasty paced surfing action on the range of World famous quality beach and point breaks on donate on the Coast. Be Sousa feverishly applied his aerial attack on the 1m wedging bah peaks throwing in a series of uncivilized reverse floaters and ally oops which looked absolutely spectacular but uncharacteristically not completing the critical moves and with no leg rope attached found himself swimming for his board on a couple of occasions loosing valuable surfing time. It’s the superior result for me, almost better than a win. The final was a display of spectacular tall speed surfing with the lead temporary a number of times in the first 15 minutes. Digging in deep he put everything into the wedging wall putting the crowd to their feet delivering a mortal blow to Sam Page’s dream run. Thanks to our good friends and presenting sponsor Globe and major sponsors Oakley FCC. It was a pretty day and we were stoked to see a massive crowd rock up to confront and greet their surfing herbs. Don’t think it has ever happened anywhere in the world before. Congratulations to those fans who managed to score a tonne of autographs and donate always. Brothers Nelsen are stoked to bring you such and awesome event and we’re looking at more innovative days in the future. If a revision is material we will try to provide at minimum 15 days notice prior to any fresh terms taking effect.
